There has been a lot of development on Kicad recently. Push-and-shove routing, path-finding routing, OpenGL rendering, aesthetic cleanup automation, and more awesome routing features from last spring:

I find these features super impressive! They seem to be leapfrogging over Eagle and are competing with Altium et al, which is great.
A lot of recent development has been funded by CERN, which also accepts direct donations.
